Checked luggage & Luggage Upsize™
Checked luggage
Baggage can only be checked in for a flight up to 2 (two) hours prior to scheduled departure.
All checked baggage should be properly and securely packed in suitcases or appropriate containers to ensure safe carriage.
Passengers are advised not to check-in items, which are fragile, of importance or high value including but not limited to cash, jewellery, medicines or other valuables.
All passengers and their baggage will be subjected to security screening throughout their journey.
Passengers may bring baggage with them which can be checked into the hold of the aircraft providing they have selected the appropriate Luggage Upsize™ option. Passengers may not use the unused allowances of others. Only passengers travelling within the same reservation may pool their baggage allowance.
Passengers are offered the choice to save if they choose to travel with hand luggage only. For those passengers who need to check-in baggage they have the option to select a Luggage Upsize™ option to suit their needs at the time of making their reservation upon payment of a corresponding fee per passenger per one way flight. This excludes, but is not limited to, items such as sporting equipment.

Luggage Upsize™
Our Luggage Upsize™ gives you even more choices on how you want to fly. You can save by travelling light on Tiger Airways with up to 10kg of hand luggage free, or choose to pay an affordable fee when flying with checked luggage.
Charges are based on the weight of the luggage you're checking in, so how you fly now lies in your hands — only pay for what you want, rather than for a service you may not need.
What you need to know
Passengers who have not pre-booked Luggage Upsize™ online at the time of booking have the option of doing so by calling the call centre up to 72 hours prior to departure. Passengers who do not exercise this option up to 72 hours prior to departure can still do so at the airport on the day of departure but will be limited to purchase only the 15kg baggage tier and will be charged a fee of A$65. This includes a non-refundable administration charge at the airport of A$5. Additional weight in excess of 15kg will be subjected to the prevailing excess baggage charges.
You are therefore encouraged to book your luggage requirements online at the time of making your flight booking to enjoy the lowest rates, as doing so at the airport will cost more.
Those passengers who pay the Luggage Upsize™ fee at the time of booking or up to 72 hours before departure are not entitled to a refund of the fee in the event that they do not travel or do not carry the upsized luggage allowance of checked-in luggage.
Any excess over the Luggage Upsize™ option selected; will be charged per kilo at the prevailing rates in the common currency of the departure airport.Excess luggage fees are charged at check-in and are subjected to currency fluctuations.Tiger Airways is unable to guarantee that excess luggage will be carried on flight. This is at Tiger Airways' sole discretion and is subject to various factors.
For safety reasons Tiger Airways reserves the right to not accept any individual item exceeding 30 kilos.
Infants are not entitled to baggage allowance.
You must identify your checked baggage, on the inside and outside of your baggage, with your name and address and contact telephone numbers and/or your flight confirmation number.Failure to comply with this simple requirement may result in a significant delay in the tracing of your checked baggage should it become misplaced.
If an item of your checked baggage is reported lost and cannot be found within 21 days, it shall be presumed to be lost. In such a case, you must make an application to us requiring compensation within the limits set out in the Montreal or Warsaw Convention within a further 21 days, failing which Tiger Airways shall not be liable to you.
Tiger Airways does not accept responsibility for unsuitably packed, perishable, damaged or fragile baggage or for minor damage to the exterior of baggage (e.g. scratches, stains, soiling, dents) resulting from normal wear and tear or for water damage to non water-resistant baggage or any damage to external fixtures such as handles, wheels, zippers or locks.
Items of sporting equipment including but not limited to large fishing rods, golf clubs, bicycles, scooters, surfboards, body-boards, snowboards and skis can be carried in the hold of the aircraft subject to space being available. Upon payment of an additional charge of S$35 or A$60 (or local currency equivalent) per item, per sector (flight) irrespective of weight, Tiger Airways is prepared to carry such items on a 'limited release' (i.e. entirely 'at your own risk' for damage or delay) basis. You may therefore wish to ensure that you have suitable private insurance cover in force for such items. If the fee is not paid on your outbound journey it will still be imposed on your return journey.
Infant equipment, including but not limited to prams, buggies and car seats can be carried in the hold of the aircraft. Tiger Airways is prepared to carry such items on a 'Limited Release' (i.e. entirely 'at your own risk' for damage or delay) basis for free. You may therefore wish to ensure that you have suitable private insurance cover in force for such items.
Instruments to be carried as cabin baggage must not exceed the dimensions of 30 x 117 x 38 cm. Instruments within this category include bugle, clarinet, flute, piccolo, trumpet, violin or viola and will form part of your free cabin baggage allowance. Such items are accepted for carriage by Tiger Airways entirely at the passenger's own risk.
Any instrument exceeding the above dimensions must either be checked into the hold or an EXTRA SEAT may be reserved and the appropriate fare paid.
If you wish to purchase an adjacent seat for your instrument, you may do so by contacting our call center directly. The EXTRA SEAT will be charged at the lowest available rate at the time of making the reservation.
There is no additional carry-on or checked baggage allowance associated with purchasing an EXTRA SEAT.
Please note: If an EXTRA SEAT for your oversized musical instrument is reserved, you are required to bring your own restraint(s) for your instrument as Tiger Airways is not able to provide the necessary restraint(s). Failure to do so may mean your oversized musical instrument being carried in the hold of the aircraft as your safety and that of our other passengers are of our utmost priority.
Go to "Prohibited items" for items not permitted in the hold of the aircraft.

How it works
Luggage charges for advanced bookings
Example 1
Kimmy is flying from Melbourne to Perth and makes her booking online. She estimates that she will carry about 31kg with her on the trip. Knowing she has 10kg hand carry allowance, she selects her check-in luggage requirement as Medium Luggage Upsize™ (25kg and below) and is charged A$35.
As she has checked baggage, Kimmy has to check-in at the airport. She is not charged for 10kg of hand luggage that she carries. However, she checks in a bag that weighs 27kg, instead of the 25kg that she booked online. Her total luggage charge is therefore A$75 (A$35 already paid online + A$40 incurred at airport for the additional 2kg which falls under excess luggage charges).
Luggage charges when booking at the airport
Example 1
John is flying from Melbourne to Gold Coast and makes his booking at the airport 2 hours before his flight. As this is less than 4 hours before his flight departure, he has to check-in at the airport. He is only travelling with one piece of hand luggage weighing 6kg. John does not need to pay any Luggage Upsize™ charges.
Example 2
Trisha is flying from Melbourne to Gold Coast and makes her booking at the airport. She is carrying 28kg of luggage with her, comprising a check-in bag weighing 18kg and two items of hand luggage weighing a total of 10kg. Each item of hand luggage weighs less than 7kg.
Trisha carries her hand luggage for free as the total weight is no more than 10kg. Her check-in luggage charge is thus A$130 (A$70 for the 15kg standard luggage allowance + A$60 excess luggage charges for the additional 3kg).
Luggage charges not pre-booked online
Example 1
Felicia is flying from Adelaide to Brisbane and books online. As she does not have any checked baggage, she selects Web check-in as her preferred option. On the day of travel, just before departure, she decides to take a piece of checked-baggage weighing 15kg along for the trip.
As she hasn't pre-booked any checked luggage, she is charged A$70. This includes a non-refundable administration charge at the airport of A$5.
